Victoria Bastion is the place to go beneath the surface of Narva's fortifications. The casemates turn the walls above the river into a physical experience of passages and defensive architecture. This is a visit to organise ahead of time, especially outside the main summer season.
Why visit the passages
The casemates belong to the late-seventeenth-century system of fortifications and now host guided experiences about the city's defences. Seeing the interior helps explain why the bastions are more than scenic stone walls. A good pairing is to look at the structure from the riverside first, take the booked visit, then spend a little time in Dark Garden above. That gives you three perspectives on the same part of the city.

The operator's page checked for this guide states that visits between 1 October 2026 and 30 April 2027 require prior reservation. Published seasonal schedules can differ between tourism listings and the operator, so confirm your actual date, tour language and meeting point directly. Do not arrive assuming that a ticket desk being open guarantees an immediate tour. For groups, ask about arrangements and availability rather than applying an advertised group offer to a smaller party.
Is this the right stop for your group?
Passages can feel enclosed and cold, making this a different kind of rainy-day activity from an ordinary museum gallery. Bring a warm layer and ask about the route's stairs, surfaces and access if these matter to you. The city's tour listing advises against the casemates for children under five and flags concerns for people with limited mobility or discomfort in enclosed spaces; discuss your circumstances with the operator before booking. If the interior is not a good fit, the exterior, Dark Garden and riverfront still make a worthwhile outing. Build your itinerary around the confirmed tour rather than forcing it between two other timed admissions.
