Narva Town Hall gives the Old Town a clear centre. The restored building and its square are worthwhile in their own right, but the most revealing visit also explores what once surrounded them. Much of the historic city was lost during the Second World War, making this a place to look beyond the buildings visible today.
Inside and around the square
The town hall reopened after restoration in 2023 and houses the tourist information centre. Guided visits and the virtual exhibition about old Narva provide different ways to explore its history. Outside, look at the relationship between the historic town hall and the neighbouring University of Tartu Narva College. The square is a useful place to begin thinking about continuity and reconstruction rather than expecting the dense preserved streets of Tallinn's Old Town.
Choose the visit that interests you
If your priority is the building, ask about a guided town hall tour. If you want to picture the lost city, look into the virtual exhibition and its language options. They are different experiences, so check what your chosen admission includes. The tourist information centre is also a practical first stop for current local advice, particularly if you are hoping to join a tour elsewhere in Narva. Book any essential experience before building the rest of your day around it.
A good onward route
From the square, walk towards Dark Garden and the bastions, then descend to the promenade by a route suitable for your group. Alternatively, keep the day indoors by combining the town hall with the Museum Art Gallery. Allow time between booked visits instead of assuming that every central attraction can be entered immediately. Ask in advance about the suitability of VR equipment for children or anyone who is uncomfortable with it; a virtual experience is optional, and the square and architecture can still be enjoyed without one. Use Raekoja plats 1 as your destination, and verify the current timetable and booking arrangements through the town hall's visitor information.
