One full day gives you Narva’s castle, riverfront and a first impression of the historic centre. Two days let you add Kreenholm without treating it as an afterthought. This is an editorial route with choices, not a promise that every venue opens at the same time. Check opening days, reserve any guided access and leave room for meals before setting the order in stone.
Day one, morning: start with the castle
Begin at Narva Castle, allowing time for the museum rather than only taking a photograph outside. Its position makes the river and the city’s defensive history easier to understand. Afterwards, choose lunch according to your next stop. If you arrive late in the morning, make the castle your main paid visit for the day; there is no need to compensate by rushing the town hall and gallery as well.
Day one, afternoon: connect the upper town and river
Walk towards Town Hall Square for the story of pre-war Narva, then connect with Dark Garden and the River Promenade. The exact order can follow your chosen museum booking and the weather. There are changes in level between the upper town and waterfront, so check your route if stairs are a concern. Add Victoria Bastion only with a confirmed visit; walking beside it does not include entering the casemates.
If you have only one day
Choose either a longer promenade walk towards Joaorg or another indoor visit at the Art Gallery. Keep your return journey in mind and leave time to collect luggage. For dinner or a departure-day meal, consult the food guide rather than assuming you will find the same choice at every point along the river. You can finish with a clear sense of Narva without fitting the industrial district into a late-afternoon gap.
Day two: give Kreenholm its own half-day
Arrange the Kreenholm visit first, using the operator’s actual meeting address and tour time. The factory grounds are restricted; a self-guided district walk does not substitute for booked entry. Allow time around the appointment to see the surrounding streets and understand how industry shaped the city. A casual meal in the southern part of town can make more sense than returning to the centre halfway through the outing.
Finish according to your interests
If church architecture interests you, consider Alexander’s Cathedral or the Resurrection Cathedral, with interior access checked separately. If you would rather have more art or time by the water, return to the gallery or river instead. On a rainy second day, put the indoor visit first and keep the district walk short. For families, one substantial activity per half-day is a better starting point than this whole list. Choose your base using the neighborhood guide, and treat a trip to Narva-Jõesuu as another excursion with its own travel time.
